Today, I am excited to announce that Equal Ventures has raised $175m to further our mission to “Bridge the Digital Divide.” These funds are split across two vehicles, $100m for Equal Ventures Fund 2 and $75m for our first Opportunity Fund. Equal Ventures Fund 2 will continue with our core strategy of leading seed investments in climate, insurance, retail and supply chain (with initial investments of $2-3m), while the Opportunity Fund enables us to double-down on our most promising companies in subsequent rounds.

We’re excited to announce that Grace (DeJesus) Penders will be joining Equal Ventures as our new Climate Product Owner. Grace joins us from Energize Capital, one of the leading climate-specific venture firms, where she was most recently a Senior Associate.

As a firm, we are obsessive about the industries that we invest in. We do an immense amount of work to study how these industries operate and develop a POV on how they could operate in the future. Where we get most excited, however, is when we see an opportunity for the companies we partner with to create those futures — to make the theoretical possible.

The Equal Ventures Insurance Index is a quarterly summary of trends in the insurance industry based on public equity performance. This post summarizes performance of our indices and of the broader industry in Q4 2023, and showcases valuation trends over calendar year 2023.

In the startup world, an aspiration many of us share is to be a part of building something special. A product or business that becomes a stalwart in its industry and innovates to better serve its customers and partners. Through my own journey, I believe that Equal Ventures has the potential to be one such institution in the venture industry, and I’m thrilled to rejoin the team after a few years on the operator side.
